When Our Grown Kids Disappoint Us: Letting Go of Their Problems, Loving Them Anyway, and Getting on with Our Lives by Jane Adams
This book goes into detail about when our grown kids refuse to grow up, are unable to hold a job, are addicted to drug and alcohol and possibly still live at home. The sadness and shame a parent feels can be overwhelming and effect your daily lives.
In her book Jane Adams reassures parents that they have done all they can do and it is not their job forever to pick up the pieces. Detachment is a difficult word, but it can be done with compassion and understanding. The best thing we can do for our grown kids is take care of our lives, and they will start to take care of themselves. This book will help to remove some of the guilt and shame so that you can get on with your life.
This is a great read for parents that have troubled teens soon to turn 18.

Nona Nita thanks for reading, extended family is important to the troubled teen and the parents. Let’s stay connected.
A few of my friends are struggling with this issue. The guilt seems to be a heavy burden and keeps them stuck. Thanks for the heads up on this resource to recommend to them.
