Power Napping For The Troubled Soul

There is now scientific proof that napping can be beneficial to your health, mind, body and spirit. This is my gift to you, learn how to Power Nap. Think about it, the Europeans close up shop for hours in the middle of the day to have lunch and a nap, in Mexico they call it a Siesta. In America we call it napping and need to start taking advantage of it. I grew up in a household where napping was a no-no and if you napped you were considered lazy and unproductive. Researchers are proving this to be false, so now I have to retrain my mind.

If your boss gets upset when they find you napping on the job show them this video on the benefits their company and you, the employee,  will reap by a few little winks. ;o)

The  wikihow on power napping walks you through steps to power napping. They even have you drinking caffeine before a power nap, after a15 minute nap  the caffeine will kick in. Here are a few more pointers:

  1. A power nap is 15 minutes, set an alarm and place it across the room so that you have to get up to turn it off.
  2. Close your eyes and relax, if you can’t fall a sleep then meditate. Like me you might not be used to napping.
  3. Get up as soon as the alarm goes off. Sleeping for longer than 20 minutes can be counterproductive and cause inertia.
  4. Get your blood flowing, walk around, do jumping jacks, splash cold water on your face.

If you aren’t power napping this will give you something to think and you can practice on the weekend.  Most people do not get the recommended 8 hours of sleep a day so no wonder we are grumpy and have trouble dealing with stressfull situations. I think I will go take my nap now! Let me know if it works for you.
