I thought this article was very interesting. Sometimes I feel like my days of influence are over with my two teens and I know longer have control over their behaviors. Also that the consequences for their actions don’t have any meaning, but this article proves that teens do look up to their parents for guidance and support.
Parents Play Key Role In Whether Teen Tobacco Use Becomes A Daily Habit
“Parents need to know that they are still important and can make their children feel good when they do something right and also know that there are consequences when they do something wrong. Many parents think adolescence is the time for children to have their independence. But it is important to maintain good supervision of your teen. Parents who smoke also need to understand that they are modeling behavior and if they quit smoking they send a strong message to their teenager,” said Kim.

It is nice to know we can still influence our teens. I know they spend so little time with us compared to the time they are at school or hanging with friends. I guess that foundation we built in the early years of their lives, along with constant reinforcement of that foundation does make a huge difference.
BTW, both my parents were 2 pack a day smokers my entire life and neither my sister or I are smokers.
