In Memory Of Our Kitty - Hazel

The past month has been very difficult for our cat Hazel. We adopted two cats 8 years ago, our first family pets, the boys were 9 and 7 years old. They really wanted a pet, mainly a dog, but as a child I was never allowed to have pets except for fish or turtles so this was very unfamiliar to me. I think my brother had a bird that was not allowed to come in the house. Due to my lack of experience with animals I was told cats are easier than dogs so we adopted two feral cats, Hazel and Patches. Hazel (who came to us as Precious and we renamed) was a maine coon cat plus I think many other things. Tonight, sadly my husband and I had to take her to be put down. She had not moved in two days she became diabetic and was also on antibiotics for chronic bladder infections. I miss her so much but I know she is much happier in kitty heaven. I understand diseases do not exist in heaven and I also know she has a lot of good company up or over there.

This post is in memory of Hazel, thank you for so many things and I will never forget the Hazel hiss. We love you and you will always have a special place our family. 4/2002 – 5/28/2009

Epilogue: I finally did break down and five years ago we adopted a dog. Now we have one dog, Ollie (Oliver) and one cat Patches. The dog and cat do not get along, maybe now that we have one cat that will change.

Dogs come in many different sizes and are great companions too. My life would be very different without my dog, he has become my best buddy. Our furry friends teach us compassion.

I’m so sorry about Hazel. We have 3 cats and they are such a part of the family. It will be so hard when they pass. You are a much better mom than me – my kids, particularly me dd, really want a dog – NO! I tell them they can get a dog when they have their own place.
