Everyday I read many blogs and websites  about teens, teen issues, parenting teens and what not about life with a teen. Many of them are very good and most are basically marketing  to promote services or products. I like the real life articles, that assist me in understanding how to deal with my emotions and also my teens. Lately this website has been popping up in my RSS feeds and emails Drug Rehab Treatment.  I haven’t dissected the site, but they appear to help families find the right treatment centers which is a good thing. What I really liked about the site is once again the “real life” stories about real life people.  This is especially good for  families that may be confused and looking for help in dealing with a struggling teen.

Addiction and troubled teens does not only plague poor or abused families.  One thing that drives me crazy is when people talk about good parenting and bad parenting, as if those of us with family members in treatment are bad parents.  There may be some truth to that but basically there are many great families that have teens in treatment, I have personally met them. Everyone knows of Barbara Walters, rich, famous, well spoken, well read a family that has everything.  This is a link to her story, to prove my point

If your family is struggling with a troubled teen you owe it to yourself and your teen to get help, it doesn’t always mean residential treatment. I have seen (and somewhat experienced) where families can be torn apart due to these times of struggle. I am far from done with a struggling teen but it is amazing the bonds and transformations that many  families will  go through during the recovery process and amazingly how strong a relationship they have in the future.

I always tell my kids, when they want to be with their friends or choose friends over family. “No matter what,  your family will always be with you, in one form or another.”  I will always be a part of my teens life, as you have read with my posts about a  Runaway Teen.
