Darrell Hammond at 56 Reveals A Life of Cutting and Abuse

Darrell Hammond from SNL has written a memoir “God, If You’re Not Up There, I’m F*cked: Tales of Stand-Up, Saturday Night Live, and Other Mind-Altering Mayhem”.  He explains the brutality of his mother and how it has haunted him all of his life. He goes into vivid detail how cutting is a coping mechanism when life becomes too much to bare. He is a survivor and I can’t imagine the courage it has taken for him to deal with the past, creating this memoir and now moving -on with his life. This is recovery.

His memoir reminds me of my son, not the abuse by the mother, but the demons that can haunt one’s life. I think about this all the time, as a mother, how I have no idea what experiences my son has encountered that may be affecting his life decisions today.

Listen to this very moving and emotional interview by Terry Gross with Darrell Hammond as he explains his experiences:  Darrell Hammond on NPR

Had read an article on this as well. What I always find fascinating about these celebrity stories is that they’re often from people you wouldn’t expect at all. Like you think a comedian would be a bit happier or whatever, but you really never know what secrets someone hides. You never know what they’re going through. We get good at hiding things. Thanx for sharing.
