An eating disorder was one of the many serious self destructive behaviors my son had as he was growing up. It was the first real wake-up call that his health was seriously in jeopardy by not eating, a basic necessity of life. He was also drinking at the same time and would take water bottles filled with liquor to school. This is when the serious long journey in treatment began.
The reason I am bringing attention to this subject is I ran across an article today that indicates they now have a label called “Drunkorexia” for this self-destructive behavior. It is the combination of disordered eating and heavy alcohol consumption. Anorexia by itself can cause long term brain damage by depriving the brain of adequate nutrition especially during these developmental years then combine that with alcohol a serious problem. Parents be aware of these signs it is real and the sooner your teens can get treatment sometimes the better the outcome.
