Troubled Teens Movement Toward ‘Self-Embedding’

in self destructive behaviors

I am not sure if this is really a ritual or another sign of self destructive behaviors. My son was a cutter, but there were incidences of embedding along with the cutting. It may have been intentional or during a tense moment with a pencil or a paperclip in school.

There was one incident when he was a pre-teen with a piece of metal embedded in his fingertip. We were on vacation and his finger swelled to double the size. We were in Orlando, Florida at the time searching for emergency, I don’t think he realized the severity of what had happened until the Dr. had to lance his finger and clean out the infection. Not an event I had planned to see do while visiting the “Magic Kingdom”.

It seems our teens have ramped it up a notch higher and as if “simple cutting” was not enough, read more about this latest hazardous new ritual, ‘Self-Embedding’ a Troubling Trend Among Teens – washingtonpost.com.
