This editorial in the New York Times discusses the Nebraska Abandonment Law which was supposed to be for mother’s with infants and how it became the drop off for children ages 13-17 with mental health issues. This illustrates how a lack of good care early on can create much bigger problems, for families and for society, in the long run.
And yet the care available for children at home with their parents is severely lacking. Outside of big cities, where even under the best of circumstances there can be a two- to three-month wait to see a child psychiatrist, there is a severe shortage of children’s mental health specialists.

I could not agree more. It is so hard to get children help or the help that they need. Everyone tries to put it off on someone else it is a sick circle with in reality it is hard to keep any type of hope alive.
We live in a pretty big city and it is still almost 2 months for a child to be seen.
