To Hug or Not To Hug
A parent is concerned about the amount of hugging that goes on between her daughter and her friends. Can you really hug to much? She did not remember hugging everyone when she was in high school and is concerned about the behavior. I have also noticed this with my teens, there is one group that are huggers and another that is not. So, it does depend on the kids and the realtionship.
Here is the article which talks about respecting boundaries, both spoken and unspoken, hugging is not a problem as long as it is reciprocated. If a teen is not comfortable with the closeness then this can be a problem.

I love hugs! The real, sincere, spontaneous “I gotta share how happy I am” or “I just love you so much” kind of hugs. My friends and I were pretty big on those as teens. I don’t like the “expected” hugs, the ones that are obligatory like with family. Yuck. How phony.
I agree with your last paragraph. As long as everyone is on the same page about the hugging, go for it either way! My boys are NOT huggers, even with me, and I sure do miss it but I have to respect that it isn’t something they’re comfortable with anymore.
