I feel that new horizons did me a disservice and screwed up a lot of things for me. Maybe this program can be helpful to some, but it pretty much ruined my life. I think these programs are sadistic and cruel and putting children through them is awful. Everyone else i’ve met who has gone through a similar experience generally tends to feel the same way and have gotten further into drugs and destructive behavior then I would have predicted without wilderness. Wilderness just made me more interested in drugs and alcohol which were things that i hadn’t experienced at the time and i think it’s a messed up program. I think it’s for the better that they are closed.

I sent my daughter to New Horizons when her life was in complete crisis. That must have been the spring of 2002 I am sad that it no longer exists. I was looking to recommend NH as a place to work for a friend’s son who is working in the wilderness field in NC. Called and didn’t get any answers….now I know why. Blessings to those who gave their time and talents to help struggling women. It was a excellent program and helped many.
Sincerely,
BDH

I cried when I first heard about this. This program saved my life, as did the counselors and the young women there with me. I just wish I had tried to contact the staff sooner, and still want to find a way – they did so much for so many.

As a former employee, I am glad to hear that you regard the program as highly as you do and am glad that my fellow workers were able to assist in your growth.

Hi Nicole, Glad to hear that you benefited from this program. One of the staff may get in touch with you from your comment. Keep up the good work. You should be very proud.

This is really sad for me. For I was a graduate of NHWP it’s sad to know that others can’t receive the gifts I did from this amazing program. It’s also sad I don’t know how to contact any of my former staff I really enjoyed keeping in touch with them.
