Today I am filled with gratitude, I don’t think I would have said this a year ago when  my son first went into residential treatment. At that time I felt like we were being robbed, I was losing my son I wanted him at home. Today my son is getting his life back, all the anguish all the pain it has take so long. I don’t think I ever really understood how sick he was. The denial, I am so thankful for those that have helped our family. I cannot imagine what it would be like if we lost him.  Even today I want my son home but everyday he is getting that much better. Why can’t I parent my adolescent son?

Now we are transitioning into our second year I never thought it would go on this long. He is expressing his feelings on the next phase. Our vision “was” to bring him home, his choice is a step-down. Wow, we have come a long way, my son is choosing to go to a step down program. This is progress. He now has a future and the success is in him. These programs do work.

Hi. My son is currently in Utah. He has been there for 6 months. He is doing remarkabley better. My husband and I are so greatful for all the hard work he has put in and are greatful that he now loves school; hes on the honor roll. When he comes home for home visits, he has changed noticeably. We want it to stay that way. We want to enroll him in a step down school after he leaves residential (I know he still has 3-4 months) but I like to search my options early. Can you share with me a few step down schools that are good. We live in S. Torrance, CA. We’re willing to travel; but not too far because we both work.
This article really touched me and gave me hope, because all we want is to see our son have a successful, happy, fullfilling life. Please, at your earliest convenience e-mail me and share what you know. Thank you, Katie. 310-980-5781
