There are many different types of residential treatment facilities, some men only or women only, and others co-ed. There are arguments for both. Most residential or therapeutic treatment facilites I have visited that are co-ed, the boys and the girls are completely separated. They do not intereact at all during the day. Academically if it is a co-ed school I have seen programs where the classes are only boys or only girls and other co-ed programs where the classes are mixed. At one facility they told me the classes were mixed at one time, but it caused to many problems and they ended up breaking them out between single sex classes. The article below has very compelling reason for a women-only environment, I am sure the same reasons would apply somewhat to boys or men.
