Teen Message for Father’s Day

This weekend is Father’s Day; a special day for dear ‘ol Dad, with visions of Bar-B-Que, a lazy afternoon and warm weather days ahead. Special occasion days, no matter how soupy, are a cause for reflection and may be difficult for some. Having your teen away from home, is one of those life events that may bring up feelings of guilt, sadness and sometimes relief.  This Father’s Day message from a teen was contributed by one of our special readers:

For my dad

I know you like to help me
but sometimes I don’t want your help.

I know you would like me to do everything right the first time,
but I want to learn from my own mistakes.

I know you are always looking out for my best interests,
but we aren’t usually interested in the same things.

Even though I don’t show it, I know that you care.
So remember that when I mess up, it was me who messed up, not you.
I know you’ll always be there for me.
